DJI MAVIC Pro – good to know

Worth knowing about DJI MAVIC PRO

What is the meaning of MAVIC Pro?

The drone is the best you can buy today? It is of course the one with the best camera, no? Or perhaps the most features?

But what if we said that neither are the most important? What if we told you that the little creature you see here is this year's camera drone? This is a  DJI MAVIC PRO.

Read all about DJI's MAVIC PRO here.

This little drone contraption, packed together like a small box is a DJI MAVIC PRO. It can pretty much everything people expect of a drone today, from a unit that is so small that you delete will not questioning whether it is worth the trouble to lug with.

In the past year, we have seen several new drones who have tried to get there; high quality and small size. But they have all failed at one or another point. Some companies have launched drones that are small, but who lacked a good stabilization, or a dedicated remote for precise control when you needed it.

Before DJI's MAVIC PRO, was a Phantom 4 probably the which came closest to an all-in-one solution, but it was still too big for most to one would carry around on it all day.

HOW SMALL Is A MAVIC Really?

Unlike other smaller drones, as GoPro's Karma or Vantage Robotic's Snap, then folds DJI MAVIC PRO into itself so that the arms are not sticking out. It makes the incredibly small.

Because DJI MAVIC PRO is not much bigger than a big bottle of water, you can have it with in virtually any bag elle backpack you may have. View MAVIC's specifications at the end of the article.

What HAPPENS To The PLASTIC CAPSULE In FRONT Of The CAMERA?

If you do not already know it, so come with a small plastic capsule MAVIC around the camera. Contrary to what some believe, so it must NOT be used during the flight. It is only meant as a protection of the camera during transport and removed prior to departure because it would otherwise result in blurred images with lots of glare.

But it does that you need not worry too much about gimbalen when you run around with the drone in a backpack.

WHICH SPECIFICATIONS HAVE A MAVIC?

Despite its very small size is very close to MAVIC could run right up with a Phantom 4. Top speed is approximately 65 kilometres per hour (8 km/h slower than the Phantom 4) but surprisingly enough flight time is the same. Both Phantom 4 and MAVIC can on average fly 22 minutes with a Max. flight time of about 27 minutes. However, the range is where it gets really interesting.

In one way or another, has managed to get the small MAVIC remote to provide a range of up to 7 km/4.3 miles. It is longer than both the Phantom 4 and what Danish legislation allows – remember in Denmark (and most other countries) you must always have your drone within sight (without scope).

HOW TO FLY A MAVIC?

When it comes to flight with a MAVIC so we have not yet even had the opportunity to fly it. But it has one of our partners in the last week. He described it as a fast-acting, very solid and stable even in relatively strong winds.

In spite of its size, he was at no time nervous about whether it could maintain its position in the high winds.

In addition, it has "obstacle avoidance" – IE. It has forward-facing cameras which scans the area and end up if it is on the road to (greater) obstacles. It still works not opposite the wires/cables and smaller branches, but are you on the road to a building it will automatically stop and rise.

Impressive that this technology has already been integrated into such a small drone just a year after it was introduced.

CAN MAVIC RECORD GOOD VIDEO QUALITY?

We've got to get video footage from a MAVIC and a few original DNG photo files. Quality is always difficult to define, because it requires that you have a reference.

Compares you with an Inspire 1 with X5R then it is not impressive. But comparing you with a Phantom 4, Yes, so are the nearly identical – however, it appears that images are less sharp at the edges.

But when you're so on top of taking MAVIC's size with in the comparison, then one can only describe the quality as good. You just need to remember to remove the protective cap and focus properly with the touch of the screen.

The camera has autofocus, so when you filming something close to is the object sharp and the background more blurred. Gimbalen stabilizes really well and the propellers come with less of the image than with fx. a Phantom 4.

Another fun thing with this is that the gimbal can rotate 90 degrees for portrait photos.

WHAT WE THOUGHT ABOUT MAVIC?

Now, we have unfortunately not even flown yet, but has been thoroughly tested with a partner and seen the original video and photo files that you can download (see end of article).

It seems to keep all the promises and we are looking forward to test the extra features it has, such as the Active Tracking, Selfie Mode, Terrain Follow Fashion that prevents it from flying into the ground when you fly over hills.

But all in all it looks to be a fantastic MAVIC begins drone or a complement to the larger drones when one would like to film and record a little without the hassle of lugging too much equipment around.

A little pixie has told us that DJI already has orders for 2 million copies. If that's true, then we probably won't see much more of GoPro's. Karma or Yuneec's Breeze years to come.
